Heather Releases New Album, "Movin' On"
Heather Thomas Van Deren
It’s my desire to be pleasing to God in all that I do, especially in my music. I love Psalm 96:1 that says, “Sing to the Lord a new song; Sing to the Lord, all the earth.” It’s my calling to sing to and for Him! The songs I sing are chosen or written carefully, with a message I truly believe, that I can “preach”. Whether I am leading worship, in a concert setting, or speaking at various events, it’s the “message of the gospel” that needs to shine through more than anything. I want you to KNOW Him, FEEL Him, LOVE Him. I strongly believe this: Jesus died for us; shouldn’t we live for Him? One day I want to hear Him say, “Well done, my good & faithful servant.” It’s then my mission will be made complete.
Music has a language of its own. It’s at the heart of worship. It possesses the uncanny ability to prepare our hearts before a church sermon or reach into the depths of our soul when we are alone with God. He can speak through His musicians and writers to impart a biblical principle that you’ll never forget. Try spending some time in His Word & see all the references to music. It’s amazing! God created us to enjoy music!
Whether my songs are my own creation or written by another artist, I want you to know that I truly believe there is a message inside that song waiting just for you. This is why I sing: to lift up the Lord, & to be His vessel to meet you in your present need.
God has given me the “gift of gab”, that’s for sure. I learned as a young adult teaching childrens’ Sunday School, that I had the gift. I learned when acting in church dramas & plays I had the gift. And after 10 years of singing in the ladies’ trio “Hearts to Him”, where we ministered to ladies & church groups alike, God showed me that yes, He had a plan for using that gift to make people laugh, lift people up, & point them toward Jesus. Just by being me & getting in His Word! It’s been said I remind people of Christian speaker Beth Moore. I don’t know how true that really is, but I DO know He has called me to “go where He sends me” & speak the things of God that are on my heart.
“Ministry” to me means anything you do for the cause of Christ. I love ministering for Him. Leading worship, singing in concert, speaking at churches and other events. The prison ministry is especially close to my heart, having seen many come to Christ over the past 15 years or so, sharing stories & songs with inmates at many prisons. I have a dear pen pal named David, whom I have communicated with for those 15 years. David is serving a 75-year sentence, but He loves the Lord beyond distraction, & is an inspiration to me. How may I minister to you or your church group? Let’s pray and see!
