Little Bit's Dilemma
Updated: Feb 21, 2020

I have the dumbest dog. Really. And to top it off, she is the biggest glutton ever! We have a total of four dogs, & when it is feeding time we have to tie Little Bit to a tree or else she'll gulp down her food, then eat everyone else's too! Her gluttony has made her quite overweight, & people laugh when they find out her name is "Little Bit"!
The funniest thing happened one day. At feeding time my daughter took Little Bit over by the tree to feed her, but failed to put her on the chain. More than half an hour later my daughter came to me & said, "You're not going to believe this. Little Bit is still sitting by the tree because she thinks she is tied up, and is waiting to be released! The other dogs have gone off somewhere." We laughed & laughed. We went to the window, and there was dumb 'ol Little Bit, just sitting there, tail wagging, eyes pleading, as if to say, "Please let me loose! Please let me loose!"
I said, "For heaven's sake, go out there & pretend you're unhooking her, or she may still be there when we get back from church tonite!" So my daughter walked over to Little Bit (who was estatically jumping up & down in place!) and pretended to unhook the chain from her collar. Little Bit then commenced to run around my daughter, dancing a dance that only dogs can do, as if to say, "Oh thank you, thank you!" She then turned & ran off to find her three friends. We were laughing so hard we were crying. Dumb 'ol Little Bit.
I said to myself, "There's got to be a moral to this story". And there is. How many times has Satan deceived us into thinking we're still "tied up" or "on a chain", when in fact we've already been set free? How many of you remain bound to your old way of life, even after you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, and He set you FREE from that life? Jesus Himself said, "If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36) The word 'indeed' means "for certain; definitely; without a doubt". Do you doubt the power Christ has to set you free from your old habits? Then listen to this scripture: 1 John 4:4 - "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."
Satan is a liar, a deceiver & the epitome of sin. There is not one good thing within him. Nothing. Nada. And yet even Christians have been found to believe he has something to offer. Drugs? Illicit sex? Gambling? Alcohol? The list goes on and on. Even after serving prison time, some Christians cannot stand firm. Just like Little Bit, they say to themselves, "I can't leave this life. I'm still tied up!"... Quit waiting for the Master to come let you off your chain! You're already free! The heaviest chains ever known to man were snapped in two at the Cross of Calvary. Jesus bore your sins on His beautiful shoulders & proved His love for you. His last words were "It is finished." (John 19:30) Jesus doesn't lie! BELIEVE Him!
Three days after Jesus' death & burial, He miraculously rose from the dead to prove something else to you: HE IS GOD, and there is more beyond this life! His death & resurrection also symbolized YOUR transformation as you became a Christian (and I hope you ARE one). 2Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."
Let's not waste any more time thinking we're still tied to our old sins and bad habits! Let's jump for joy like Little Bit did, and exclaim, "Thank You Lord, for setting us free!" And "Thanks Lord, for using Little Bit to show us such a wonderful truth!" Amen.
